- Crossref accepts "standards" as a document type
- requires fees (possibly per document, which are ridicolously low,
and as annual membership - I couldn't find a list of members)
- DataCite has a service to assign DOIs https://datacite.org/dois.html
which requires to be a member, the list of members is at
https://datacite.org/members.html ... ORCID is a member but I do not
know if this allows any individual who has an ORCID id to use the
service ... many universities are members (including the Conference of
Rectors of Italian Universities - but no italian research organization
is, so I cannot use this channel), some European institutions like CERN
(but not ESO nor ESA), and in the US there are three entries for NASA
(EOSDIS, PDS and NASA tout court) and Smithsonian and STScI ... so I
think some of the FITS SEG members in one of the latter institutions
could perhaps request a DOI
That's all for today
