the initial error messages you sent make no sense if 777 is reallythe permissions on the data directories.I do not think anything would lock a user number.  But you couldcheck on say the one you initially sent.  User 499 would have filesending in 0 dee vee  semicolon (or .0DV\; in computerese).  I would guessthat there are none since creating the MSD0DV000.0DV\; and theCAD000000.0DV\; files is the first thing that happens after you enter the 499.Installing aips is pretty easy (and we up to version 31DEC18 by now - what versiondo you have?)Eric Greisen
