I thought of a bit more

The make of XAS will simply fail.  Later

cd $YSERV/XAS
edit the Makefile to change the compiler and then
make clean
make

also your $HOME/.AIPSRC file has lines for the compiler paths
and lines for the compiler options.  These should be edited
to match the compiler you are using - and you may have to run
install.pl for a while to get that file made for you - then quit
install.pl, edit the file, then start install.pl up again.
