It is not likely to be an IMAGR issue.  It appears that the message
file is damaged.  Exit aips and cd to your first data area.  The message
file is name MSDuuu000.uuu\;  where uuu is your user number in extended
hex (base 36).  An ls -l should reveal a MS file of size 0 but even if not
delete the one applying to your user number.

Then start up aips and all should be well.
