I know about the XAS Makefile issues where it does not seem able
to differentiate except on OS - so both the compiler and compiler
options cannot be right for everyone.

But your issues with CCOPTS.SH confuse me - the file we ship issues
options -ip and -axWPT only if the compiler path/name contains the string
icc.  Did this happen by accident and not include gcc ?
