When SPLIT is run the weights are normally changed to the
negative of the absolute value of the current value.  Weight 0
or negative means flagged.

So your understanding is good.

Should you develop an improved or at least useful flagging 
algorithm, we would be interested in providing it to a wider
audience by implementing it in AIPS (with appropriate credit
to you of course).
