What sort of image do you have and what sort of BLC/TRC
do you set?  The new task performs a robust fit of the
full image for a mean and rms.  That should be almost as
good or better than the Gaussian fit.  This informs the
initial guess of the fit for the true rms.  That fit uses
BLC/TRC and DOINV.  I suppose if the true rms of the image
varies grossly across the image then one might get some
of what you report.  I will look a little...
