Did you upgrade your operating system?
There are instructions on the AIPS Manager FAQ page about the shared
memory ID failure. They are
On the latest "leopard" systems, /etc/rc is gone and creating it will
have no effect. You need to create an /etc/sysctl.conf file and put the
values in it,
kern.sysv.shmmax=10485760
kern.sysv.shmmin=1
kern.sysv.shmmni=32
kern.sysv.shmseg=8
kern.sysv.shmall=4096
The xdpyinfo | more commands should show 24-bit or 32-bit visuals. AIPS
cannot use a 16-bit one but can (sort of) use an 8-bit visual. That has
not been tested much of late! Perhaps our Mac expert can offer
suggestions on this point.
