New Staff Reply: gfortran is compatible?

Some versions of gfortran will work with AIPS although older ones
such as 4.1.x do not.  The files as provided in the distribution
have some trouble switching to gfortran and may have to be hand
edited.

However, why are you compiling AIPS on your computer?  Are you
planning to write your own aips tasks?  If not, you should use
the binary distribution which will provide load modules that
run quite a bit faster than those produced by gfortran.

perl install.pl -n

will do the binary installation.
