New Ticket: AIPS TV is blank
Greetings. I am following an AIPS tutorial located at:
http://www-astro.physics.ox.ac.uk/~hrk/AIPS_TUTORIAL/HRK_AIPS_1.html
In their Section 2.1, I am asked to use AIPS TV to display the VLA transfer function.
The display tasks operate correctly, but AIPS TV remains blank.
I am using a MacBook (with a 6-bit monitor - to avoid confusion, I mean 6-bit in each of red, green, and blue) and am running Mac OS X 10.5. My computer name is set to "LOCALHOST" in AIPS.
I read the FAQs located at:
http://aips.nrao.edu/aipsmgr/index.html
but when I type "xdpyinfo | more" (in X11), I am told that my depth is 24 planes, rather than 16. I have not yet tried "export DISPLAY=localhost:0" - the last time I did this, I had to erase many data files manually to get AIPS working again.
I am tempted to try the "tv=local" launch parameter, but AIPS TV is one of my three messenger windows... my pointer cursor changed to a + symbol when mousing over, but AIPS TV just doesn't display anything.
I have already edited "/etc/services" to include # AIPS TV server, # AIPS TV lock, etc.
Here is what I get when I launch AIPS:
XASERVERS: Start TV LOCK daemon TVSERV on localhost
XASERVERS: Start XAS on localhost, DISPLAY /tmp/launch-NLI29p/:0
TVSERVER: Starting AIPS TV locking, Inet domain
XASERVERS: Start graphics server TEKSRV on localhost, DISPLAY /tmp/launch-NLI29p/:0
XAS: ** TrueColor FOUND!!!
XAS: *** Using shared memory option for speed ***
XAS: Using screen width 1270 height 678,
max grey level 8191 in 16 grey-scale memories
AIPS 1: You are assigned TV device/server 1
AIPS 1: You are assigned graphics device/server 1
XASERVERS: Start message server MSGSRV on localhost, DISPLAY /tmp/launch-NLI29p/:0
(MacBook 2.1 GHz, Mac OS X 10.5.8, 2.25 GB RAM)
