I immediately found one thing - the format translator that moves an AN 
file from the old format to the new loses the keyword POLTYPE since that 
is an "added" keyword not created when the file is new.

If PCAL was run before the change in AN format and RLDIF after then 
there will be a problem.  If PCAL is also run after the change (as in 
the AN file you sent me), then you should not get the

RLDIF1: UNKNOWN POLARIZATION PARAMETERIZATION ='
RLDIF1: NO USABLE POLCAL INFORMATION AVAILABLE IN AN TABLE

messages.  If RLDIF prints something then it has gotten through the 
polarization calibration set up and the symptoms have now changed.
