To debug this problem, copy $SYSUNIX/{XA,UNIX}SERVERS $SYSLOCAL and
then edit them to uncomment the lines with the -hold command.

What aips attempts to do is run a program inside an xterm and
something is going wrong.  The -hold says leave the xterm after the
program ends.  This will let you read the error message.  It is
usually a failure in LD_LIBRARY_PATH although some xterms these days
do no allow multiple commands in sequence or even commands at all...

If you can't figure it out from the messages you see send me the info
