The messages you are receiving on failure indicate that you do not
have permission to talk to the TV lock daemon process TVSRV1.  Is it
possible that someone else is running.  Do an

ls -laF /tmp

to check the ownership of LOK.1.hostname.  Try aips tv=local:0 to get
a completely new setup - the lock daemon claims to be running when you
start.  XAS is supposed to come up in an iconized form and all
messages indicate that it has.  You are not getting the messages that
occur when the lock daemon is okay but XAS is gone - instead you do
not get that far and the lock daemon is either not working, gone, or
belongs to someone else.
