Hi Mike,
O.K., our Mac expert said you need to generate ssh keys on both your
computers and put the keys in the authorized_key2 file on the other
computer. I.e., generate the key on Jansky and put it in the
authorized_key2 file on Hollis and vice versa. I have also noticed that
there is a entry about this with more details on the AIPS Manager's FAQ.
Go to http://www.aoc.nrao.edu/aips/aipsmgr and scroll down to "My
machine keeps asking for passwords".
About your laptop, since it gets different ip addresses it is better if
you force the name of your laptop to be LOCALHOST for AIPS purposes. So
add a line to your HOST.LIST which says something like:
- LOCALHOST MAC MYLAPTOP NONE Hollis
Cheers,
Amy

Dear Amy:
My notebook gets reassigned IP addresses every time that I log in. In
what follows, I have used the notebook to log onto my account 'hollis'
on computer 'jansky' at work from home. I have used the ssh command
ssh -X hollis at jansky.gsfc.nasa.gov
and then executed aips. Here is the output from that session:
[JANSKY:~/Desktop] hollis%
[JANSKY:~/Desktop] hollis% xclock &
[1] 1958
[JANSKY:~/Desktop] hollis% Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on
display "localhost:10.0".
[JANSKY:~/Desktop] hollis%
[JANSKY:~/Desktop] hollis% ps
PID TT STAT TIME COMMAND
1645 p1 S+ 0:00.10 -tcsh
1687 std Ss 0:00.09 -tcsh
1958 std S 0:00.07 xclock < xclock works !!
929 p3 S+ 0:00.14 -tcsh
[JANSKY:~/Desktop] hollis%
[JANSKY:~/Desktop] hollis%
[JANSKY:~/Desktop] hollis% aips

That's the end of it -- the reason of the GUESS is that the IP address
that was assigned to the notebook did, in fact, have a computer known
as 'hollis' using that particular IP address. Confusing, huh?
