Hi Eric,

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Indeed the two machines
have different flavors of linux. I hope that's not the real reason
behind the problem...

Here is my Debian linux box that shows the problem:

BONITO:/usr/aips/31DEC05/LINUX/SYSTEM/UMASS> /usr/bin/g77 --version
GNU Fortran (GCC) 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-13)
Copyright (C) 2002 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

The second machine that runs normally:

RAVEN:/AIPS/31DEC04/LINUX/SYSTEM/RAVEN> /usr/bin/g77 --version
GNU Fortran (GCC 3.2.2 20030222 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.2-5)) 3.2.2 20030222
(Red Hat Linux 3.2.2-5)
Copyright (C) 2002 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

Are there known problems with Debian gnu fortran compiler? I hope
not.

p.s. Everything used to work beautifully, but I had to do an upgrade
on aips about 6 months ago for some reason or another. The local
system manager also did an "upgrade" on the OS in order to get the
JObserve to work (which never worked and still does not work).
