You can see if it worked by seeing if TPMON1 is running once you start
AIPS.

Remove the echo if it worked - the path certainly seems to be
excessively specified...

All one has to do is set $AIPS_ROOT and dot the LOGIN.SH file.  There
is a cheat I am not fond of that is used here

In /usr/bin make a soft link

cd /usr/bin
ln -s $AIPS_ROOT/START_AIPS aips
ln -s $AIPS_ROOT/START_AIPS AIPS

Then everyone will have /usr/bin in their path and so the aips symbol
will be recognized and it will manage the rest.
