It is a real error (errno 5 is given us by the OS).  You might try
looking at the system logs (sorry I do not know their names) at the
time of the error to see if they contain more info (5 is very
generic).  Is it a new tape?  Your setup may have a problem with how
aips writes at the beginning of tape on new tapes.  Try writing
something on the tape with e.g. tar or dd.  Then re-run the aips task.
