You should have a file in your home area called .Xdefaults. This file
can contain all sorts of commands to XAS including cursor shape - see
HELP XAS for details. I just tried it setting the shpae to 128 and
got the promised ellipse with center dot in my requested color
(purple). When I go back to 30 I get a little plus with a hole in the
middle but its color is black and white (odd that).

Do a KLEENEX from aips. Then, after editing the file, type at the
command line

xrdb -merge ~/.Xdefaults

Then start up aips again - you may have to wait a while until the
inet address is known not to be in use
