    When you say "open" what do you mean?  In the process of reading
the cursor or just exposed on the screen?  I leave XAS running
sometimes for weeks on my computer with no ill effects.  But I never
leave it reading the cursor (note until we made the code smarter a
cursor read in which the cursor never moved would use 100% of the
computer's cpu).

I need more information - what does it say when you start aips?  Those
messages are there for a reason - to tell at least me what is wrong.
