Indeed the DADEVS.LIST syntax was wrong (its wrong in .AIPSRC too). I 
edited DADEVS.LIST by hand to say this:

-  /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/ANANYA_1
-  /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/ANANYA_3
-  /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/ANANYA_2

(I have assigned group-write (ie xw) permission to each level in
AIPS/DATA/ANANYA_*.)

SETPAR now gives a different error:

Second of all, 

Although when install.pl queried me I specified APSIZE to be 80MB (as 
install.pl recommended), the current .AIPSRC shows 5MB. How do I check 
whether APSIZE has indeed been set to 80MB?
