Just use the address daip at nrao.edu and you will get what is left of
the group. That way, if I am on vacation, others will try to help.

Actually I know the answer instantly. The installer did not read the
aips web page http://www.aoc.nrao.edu/aips closely enough (or it may
not have been fully set up then). In any case, I will bet that AIPS
was installed with the so-called "gnu 2.96" compiler. This was not a
released product of the gnu group and does not optimise code
correctly. On of the symptoms is that TVFLG goes into an infinite
loop at about the stage when it should be loading the TV. IMAGR also
fails badly sometimes, and other odd things happen.
You need to redo the installation with a working compiler - a tar ball
for gnu 2.95.3 is available from the aips web pages (my personal
public ftp area) or from GNU and instructions on how to install it and
redo your current installation are available on the web page. Of
course, at that point installing 31DEC02 or even the development
31DEC03 version would be nearly as easy. Out install.pl perl script
works rather nicely.
