Hello Eric,
  Thank you so much for the suggestion and I traced
to problem to a file owership (root rather than rpcuser)
on the our aips server which causes nsflock to die.
We are now running again. In fact, I've installed
the new version but I'll need the "codes" to get it
registered. The old codes for 31dec01 do not work
with 31dec03.
