     With no AIPS on astro there can be no remote tape.  Assuming that
the tapes are on astro, then astro must run the AIPS program TPMON as
a daemon process to talk to the AIPS on whatever other computer runs
aips.  It would appear to me that you must use dd to copy the tape, 1
file at a time to disk.  Then ftp the files to the computer that runs
AIPS and set INFILE to point at the dd/ftp'd file.  AIPS can write out
the data to OUTFILE in FITTP and the process may be reversed.  The
BLKSIZE is 28800 bytes usually on FITS tape files.
