This is not possible, however, since "astro" has no AIPS installed.
(this is a unique situation where I am alone - no Unix or Astronomy
experts - in this island and University trying to install AIPS somewhere;
after years of fight I decided that at least on my PC I should be capable
of doing it; with help, of course)

In this past week I have been trying lots of things, still without
success. I have noticed that a SSH connection is vital to get the Tape
deck working properly remotely on "astro" with the AIPS on my machine (and
from my machine). However, astro does not have SSH installed and my
attempts to do it failed. After a long email dialog with Openssl, Openssh
people, it seems rather difficult to get this working properly here.
However, telnet works fine from my machine to "astro". Since there are no
security problems (both machines protected from the outside world by a
firewall), is it possible to use telnet for the connection from AIPS? How
can I change this? I have also considered the possibility of bringing the
tape deck over here but, unfortunately, it is Sun-only compatible and I
have a PC.

Did all that but found the more severe SSH problem I described before.

> Congratulations on all your progress.

Thanks. I would never have got this far without your help.

Pedro
