I'll try to reinstall now.

Yes, I'm using the correct install.pl script (taken from the
correct web pointer and with the size you mention (128237),
though I don't know the date.

Is there a quick way to check if the LOAD area has 00 code or 01 code?
(starting up AIPS gives me a message that its 00, but can this
be trusted...)
I have only one (overwritten) LOAD area now so can't directly compare.
Theres no FITDISK (supposed to be a new task in 01) in the LOAD
area, so perhaps its 00 code. I'll look into the `improvements'
documentation of 01 over 00 and check.

I didn't know about the AIPSPATH.SH file before installing, and later
 found that all of OLD NEW and TEST were set to 00.
