The person who knows about these questions is not on-line for the next 
week, so I hope I can give you some useful hints. Please continue to use

To me this sounds like the proper entries in /etc/services are missing (see
INSTALL.PS for which ones these are). If you're working on a standalone PC
that is not connected to any network, either via ethernet or phone (or you
want to run without tieing up a phone link), you might have to set up a
dummy network interface so that the internet services SSSIN and others will
work.

I wonder whether you can see your data disks - are they there, are the 
links properly set up and point to the right place, do you have permission 
to read and write?
Another possibility is that you have added a new host to an existing system 
without running SYSETUP (again, see the INSTALL.PS document).
