For 1), it looks like patch and cvs (which uses patch) are at odds. I'd do a `which patch', and maybe grab gnu patch and install that, setting the path to call it instead. I might try doing a cvs operation by hand, to see if that blorts as well. Maybe a cvs get on the tree, then wait a while, then a cvs update. Is the answer out cvs expert sent me. Eric
