We have already been hurt by the RedHat 7.1 compiler mess. Anyone
running on a RedHat 7.1 computer here who compiles AIPS will actually
get the /usr/bin/g77 which is the infamous 2.96 compiler. This has
included Bill Cotton and who knows who else.
In testing this I was horrified to discover that the compilers we use
here on alcor, primate and who knows where else are not the GNU 2.95.2
that I was told, but instead egcs 2.91.66.
I do not know if you want me installing compilers for the entire AOC
site but I am about to do so. They have to be at a location that is
cross mounted under the same name to all computers - not /usr/bin
which is local to each machine. Lacking some better idea I will
probably put them in /home/AIPS/bin/$ARCH.
