Pat Murphy can probably give you a better answer when he gets a
chance.  Some thoughts from me:

The failure is in "shared memory" but you cannot share memory between
mars and the machine at OVRO.  You need to change your .Xdefaults file
at OVRO to specify that shared memory not be used.  See the XAS help
file for details.

It would work better is you simply ran the aips TV servers on the
machine at ovro and told mars "tv=OVRO tvok" - which will be rather
faster although it will not tunnel.
