It's a DEC Alpha system with a Western Scientific DAT drive, and a new HP
8Gb tape.  

Since FITTP, PRTTP and FITLD are working on other tapes though, doesn't
that indicate that it's not a software problem?  

I also checked and there are definitely no magnets in my drawer...
