is 10s really the minimum switching time?
that would hurt even worse than 1.5deg

1.5 deg at 1km  = 26m

10/2 s x 10m/s = 50m

where i assume 1km = typical scale height of troposphere
and 10m/s = typical speed of 'winds aloft'
