testing, while spare is exactly that, a fully functional spare that we
will keep on the shelf.  

I think that you are right that we need cables in the lab that will
address Lab and Spare.  I can see where we might want to run Spare
in the lab for testing while we have Lab running, too.

Agreed.  Or a cable that can be quickly modified, for instance by
snipping off the address jumpers from the connector.
