I was thinking that it might make it easier if there was a clear
distinction between column- and cell-vector forms based on the type of
table but it was only a suggestion. Failing that, there needs to be a
predefined way to disambiguate, preferably using PVi_ma to signal the
format rather than some heuristic based on the number of rows and/or
their dimensionality.
