Sounds like needing to reset the size of the image display planes.
Try, for example,
set stdimage=imt1024
(there is a predefined set up to 8192, and you can make a custom
one for frequent use of "odd" sizes).
Then reissue the display command. Your default is in your login.cl
file so it can be set to whatever you like for subseqyent sessions.
