    For the  VLA's phase jumps, I note also the following:

    a) All four IFs, for any one antenna, jump together, and always on a 
10-second tick. 
    b) Each VLA antennas seems to have a different pattern, which is not 
obviously regular. 
    c) Each antennas has 3 or 4 different phase states, one of which is 
dominant. 
    d) The size of the jump is nearly the same for all four IFs.
    e) The length of a jump-free interval is never longer than about 120 
seconds.
