A document entitled "EVLA Monitor and Control Transition
Software Development Plan, Version 1.0.0 has been posted
to the EVLA Computing Working Documents web page:
http://www.aoc.nrao.edu/evla/techdocs/computer/workdocs/index.shtml
This document attempts to list the software that must
be developed during 2005 to accomplish the transition
from the VLA Control System to an EVLA Control System.
It is asked, requested, recommended, urged that all software
engineers working on EVLA monitor and control software download
a copy of this document and actually read it. The document does
provide information on what software is needed when. It is only
22 pages in length. If you're in a hurry, skip the material on
Phase 0 and go directly to Phase I.
The task breakdowns and their assignment to the various phases
are not set in stone. If anyone spots a flaw in the logic of
what is needed when, an omission of a needed task, or has some
ideas for a better task breakdown, please let me know. Any and
all comments are welcome.
The plan for this document is that it will grow incrementally
into an overall EVLA Monitor and Control Software Development
Plan, covering all EVLA M&C software. It is hoped that the
next release will include:
- some means, perhaps a table, to provide a more global view
of the capabilities of the instrument at the various stages
of the transition
- task breakdowns and timelines for testing of the WIDAR
prototype boards
The next or next+1 release should also include material on
the WIDAR prototype correlator and begin to consider EVLA
Monitor and Control software beyond the transition.
