Syslog is a spooler and distribution mechanism. With multicasting alone
every client will have to sort through all messages for the goodies,
syslog can do a fair amount of screening before hand. My only point
being made here with syslog (as James echoed) is that it is a mechanism
designed for versatile message logging operations. If it can be used in
the architecture of the EVLA then good, it's already built. If not, then
it won't be used. Tricking the syslog daemon into accepting a MIB
message should be trivial.
