Dear Helpdesk,

We're trying to help Jim Jackson with an AIPS issue (https://helpdesk.nrao.edu/app/itdesk/ui/requests/228963000000970035/details) , we also tried a zoom call and we are able to reproduce the issue, but we haven't been able to identify a root cause.

Some context of the problem:
When Jim starts an AIPS session, and tries to perform a split operation with a rather large dataset, he receives the following problem

malloc(): corrupted top size.

In the system logs, we see the following errors

Jun 17 17:02:00 lovelace systemd-coredump[10211]: Resource limits disable core dumping for process 9843 (SPLIT.EXE).
Jun 17 17:02:00 lovelace systemd-coredump[10211]: Process 9843 (SPLIT.EXE) of user 4445 dumped core.

originally, the issue presented itself in the machine ugd.gb.nrao.edu which has 128 GB of ram, we thought it could be that the data itself is too large.
we prepared another machine (lovelace.gb.nrao.edu) which has 256 GB of ram, but the issue still persists.
Given that this machine has been started yesterday, we don't think that rebooting would solve the problem.

We would like to request some support from Eric Griesen for additional troubleshooting.

Regards,
Alejandro.
