You are using DADEVS.LIST? That means that the name of the $HOST must appear in the name of the data area. That is so a site like ours can have amny computers sharing the aips installation each with their own data areas. We often now use private "dadevs" files such a a file named .dadevs.always in the user's home area.
The SPACE file ,ust also occur in the data area. A sample line in the the $HOME/.dadevs.always (note the period before the dadevs)

+ /home/mars/mydataarea

with 2 blanks between the plus sign and the name. A plus sign means always include the area and a - sign means include the area at the end of the list of areas

Dear Eric Greisen

Thank you for your reply with your advice.

For some reason, even if I enter the directory name directly into DADEVS.LIST, AIPS does not recognize it, but if I try to link it to an old hard disk directory using a symbolic link and register that name, it recognizss it.

Thanks,

Miyoshi

In the new area type "touch SPACE" and make sure that 0-byte file has owner and group write privilege. This file is used to lock things when a file is created and its presence is required in all AIPS data ares.

Dear AIPS Expert,

I am trying to add a new data area to AIPS, but I can't seem to get it to work.

Does AIPS not recognize the new area if I only add the new area names to DADEVS.LIST and NETS in DA00?

Is there anything I need to run a program ?

The version of AIPS I am using is 31DEC24.

I would be happy if you could give me some guidance.

Sincerly Yours,
