[daip] LISP use in AIPS and at NRAO

emacs is very friendly with lisp. In the earliest days of aips, I had a very elaborate lisp script to TeX-set the CHANGE.DOC
file for the AIPSLetter. I eventually decided that users would not want to see such detail (and CHANGE.DOC is often not all that clear as to what was done from a user's perspective). So I changed the AIPSLetter to contain user-oriented summaries of the changes and have since forgotten everything I used to know about lisp inside emacs.

Subject: LISP use in AIPS and at NRAO

Dear Eric Greisen,

I hope this email finds you well. I was having a chat recently with
someone about LISP Machines and remembered that STScI had used LISP in
places, including the HST scheduler. I was curious if there had bee much
LISP or LISP Machine usage at NRAO and asked about it on Slack.

Pat Murphy mentioned your name and said that you were involved in an
initial LISP implementation of AIPS GRIPE? I was wondering if you had
any stories to tell about that, either how it came about, its usage, why
LISP, etc.? This is mostly for my own curiosity, so please don't feel
obligated if you don't have time.

Sincerely,

George Privon
