Dear AIPS team,

I have been using parseltongue to invoke AIPS and DIFMAP to do VLBI data reduction on a supercomputer. It was revealed recently with the TOP command that the NI (nice) value changed to 16 for all AIPS tasks, which remarkably downweighted the priority. In contrast, when I do not use parseltongue to call AIPS, the NI value of AIPS tasks is normal (0). However, I don't think parseltongue is fully responsible for this NI change, because the NI value of DIFMAP tasks invoked by parseltongue remains 0. This issue persists when I install the latest version of AIPS and reinstall parseltongue. I don't know anyone else having the same issue. Is there anything that you are aware of can possibly trigger this magical NI change?

Thanks,
Hao from Swinburne University
