A task like LPCAL can be quite complex, although the worst of itis usually mathematical fitting routines.  There are chapters of"Going AIPS" in $AIPS_ROOT/TEXT/PUBL called CHAPn.PS.They are ver7y old but still useful.  Try CHAP1.PS and CHAP2.PS.You might find that changing LPCAL itself to use your new algorithmwould be easier than inventing lots of new wheels.  You could nameit something else so as to leave LPCAL undisturbed.Eric Greisen
