There are a few confusions here.

1. "I have a source that can be used as the phase calibrator for itself." That is self-cal, and to be done after normal calibration is complete.

2. "Additionally it is quite bright and sufficient as it's own bandpass calibrator." When setting up the SB, there is no reason to have multiple scans for bandpass and phase calibration. Just specify bandpass and phase calibrator intents for the same scan. The standard calibration pipeline should handle it just fine. However, specifying a *target* source as a phase or bandpass calibrator, well, I'm not sure that would work, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it. It might, but I just don't know. At least marking it as bandpass and target might.

3. "I want to designate each 'intent' with a different CALCODE for reduction purposes." You cannot do this, because there is no one-to-one mapping of scan intent to CALCODE. See SSA-946 for a discussion of how we defined the mapping of collections of intents to CALCODEs (this is where 'Z' comes from, Eric).

4. Eric's instructions on how to edit the CALCODE in the SU table are the right path if that's what he wants. Or Eric's instruction to use the source name explicitly in the tasks. That is certainly possible in AIPS and seems to me to be the right way to do what he wants. He could also select by time in the tasks; if he wants to only use one scan for BPASS, for instance.
