Hi Eric:

  I did look at the code briefly, but I couldn't figure out what it was
doing either.  I think maybe it does an analytical solution for the
crossing of ellipses and then looks for visibility data near there
those points or something.  I think I would have just gridded the
uv-plane and looked for ones that fall into the same cell

  Anyway, I was just trying it because I'd run out of other ideas,
and its probably not going to solve the problem I'm after, so
its not a high priority.
