Hi Eric,
Right, I don’t ultimately need 31DEC17 to read the 31DEC07 data or vice versa. At this point I just can’t get 31DEC07 to both open and access the data that I had previously reduced in that version. I just assume the new installation has something to do with the issue since I didn’t have this problem until I installed it.
1. The $SYSLOCAL area is in the path and looks correct:
[tltobin2 at lpv aips07]$ aips tv="local:2"
-bash: aips: command not found
[tltobin2 at lpv aips07]$ echo $PATH
.:/data/lpv2/tltobin2/aips07/31DEC07/LINUX/SYSTEM/UIUC:/data/lpv2/tltobin2/aips07/31DEC07/SYSTEM/UNIX:/usr/lib/qt-3.3/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/home/lpv/tltobin2/bin
[tltobin2 at lpv aips07]$ echo $SYSLOCAL
/data/lpv2/tltobin2/aips07/31DEC07/LINUX/SYSTEM/UIUC
3. Okay, when I ran it this time, the 31DEC07 did successfully load, but its original data disk was “unavailable” and only the data that was loaded into 31DEC17 was in the catalog. For completeness, here are the relevant parts of the files that I changed as well as the messages when opening AIPS. Also, while this version of AIPS did open, it will not exit.
Relevant lines in AIPSPATH.SH File:
# Set the AIPS root directory.
AIPS_ROOT=/data/lpv2/tltobin2/aips17
# Define AIPS versions.
OLD=/data/lpv2/tltobin2/aips07/31DEC07
NEW=$AIPS_ROOT/31DEC16
Relevant lines in aips17/DA00/DADEVS.LIST
+ /data/lpv2/tltobin2/aips17/DATA/LOCALHOST_1
+ /data/lpv2/tltobin2/aips07/DATA/LOCALHOST_1
Opening AIPS:

[tltobin2 at lpv aips17]$ $CDTST
AIPS_VERSION=/data/lpv2/tltobin2/aips17/31DEC17

Honestly, I’m just exploring opening the “OLD” version through the new version because the old version won’t open and load on its own. Like I said, I don’t need to be transferring files – I just want to open the 07 files in the 07 AIPS. My best guess was that the new installation may have overwritten something that’s causing the problem in point 1. But it could certainly be something else.
Thanks!

The ~/.AIPSRC file is only used by install.pl - no worries there.
1. When you get that message try "echo $PATH" which should point
to where the the $SYSLOCAL area is for 31DEC07. This is most important
since I do not expect 31DEC17 to read 31DEC07 data and vice versa - at
least not without difficulties due to subtle changes in format. You may have to
run 31DEC07 and make FITS files with FITTP or FITAB and then read them
back with 31DEC17.
3. Can you tell me in detail what messages 31DEC17 provided when trying to
start aips with the 2 data directories in DADEVS.LIST?
