I am not familiar with this sort of remote connection.  The 
error message comes from trying to reach the TV lock
daemon process TVSERV.  I wonder if things might not 
work better if you ran
    aips tv=local
so that XAS etc run on the  aips compute machine and
only XWindows needs to deal with the remote connection.
