1. Do NOT set DISPLAY on Macs.  The correct setting is something 
complicated and it will get set properly.

2. Yosemite installs delete some of the XWindows installation.
You need to re-install X from
http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/

It sounds as if you ran the MNJ so START_AIPS and START_TVSERVERS should 
have their yosemite patch in your $AIPS_ROOT (check the date on the files).
