Many users employ tv=local at all times. It has all of the functionality
of the Internet TV sockets except that machines other than the one
the TV server (XAS) is running on cannot access the TV. In fact, it
also offers the option to have multiple TVs for multiple AIPS sessions.
Fraser Owen is the only one I know that keeps ~5 or more going at all
times, but others do use 2 or so on occasion.

You could change to other socket numbers in /etc/services if you need
2 computers to talk to each other. But you have to make the same change
in each. I would look through the files (which may not be in numerical order)
to find numbers not used at all. The standard 5002 for the TV lock (SSSLOCK)
is used by "radio free ethernet" whatever that is. But I have had users tell
me of issues if they first start IRAF and then aips. Thus some software may seek
out unused addresses dynamically and then pass them around somehow. The
above user had no problem if she started aips first and then iraf.
