I am going to close this ticket since the TV issue is resolved.
It sounds as if you have gone from RedHat 5 to RedHat 6 on a
Linux box. My experience with this (unfortunate) transition is
just what you are seeing. The OS decides every few minutes
that it needs to update its knowledge of the contents of a
directory. When there are large numbers of files in the affected
directory, this then takes what seems like 60 seconds or so.
There are nearly 1500 files in the HELP area for AIPS (used by
INPUTS) and 550 files the LOAD area (used after HELP for GO).
RH 6 is a pain for this (and numerous other) reasons. If
you do not use RedHat, perhaps you use something new with
the same attributes as RH 6.
