I have been making progress with XGAUS, but also managed to get into more trouble. There are 3 things:

(1) If an output file is requested with DOOUT=1 (and sometimes with DOOUT=3), things crash:

CHAR > XGAUS1: Begin writing residual image cube
CHAR > XGAUS1: COMOFF: I DONT WORK FOR NDIM = 255
CHAR > XGAUS1: ZMI2: DELAY 1
CHAR > XGAUS1: ZMI2: DELAY 2
CHAR > XGAUS1: ZMI2: REQUEST FOR BYTES 25560065 THRU = 25561088
CHAR > XGAUS1: ZMI2: BEYOND EOF = 2048
CHAR > XGAUS1: ZMIO: OPER=WRIT LUN=34 BLKNO= 24962 8-BIT-BYTES= 1024
CHAR > XGAUS1: ZERROR: IN ZMI2 ERRNO = 22 (Invalid argument)
CHAR > XGAUS1: XGAURE: ERROR 3 ON FINISH RESIDUAL IMAGE
CHAR > XGAUS1: XGAUOU: ERROR 3 ON WRITING THE RESIDUAL IMAGE
CHAR > XGAUS1: Destroyed MA image file: catno= 196 disk= 3
CHAR > XGAUS1: Purports to die of UNNATURAL causes
CHAR > XGAUS1: char 31DEC14 TST: Cpu= 15.0 Real= 210

(2) When fitting lots of components (e.g., ngaus=8) and when DOTV=1, it dies as soon as the initial fit is requested:

forrtl: severe (66): output statement overflows record, unit -5, file Internal Formatted Write
AIPS 1: TASK QUIT WITHOUT RESUMING ME

This does not occur for the same spectrum, same fit components, when using the DOTV=2 mode.

(3) Certain choices of BLC, TRC seem to trigger an error when the program goes to write the XG table. For example,
BLC 210, 47, 48, 0
TRC 480, 80, 83, 0
leads to:
CHAR > XGAUS1: TABIO: BAD LRNO= 1261 LIMIT 1260
CHAR > XGAUS1: TABXG: TABIO ERROR 2

Meanwhile, it it happy if I instead use, say, TRC 480, 83, 83, 0 or TRC 480, 83, 82, 0

Lynn
